Welcome aboard the USS Mariner

The year was 2272. Earth and the Federation were slowly returning to normal after the successful conclusion of the V'Ger crisis. The recently refitted Constitution Class USS Mariner, under the command of Matthew Drake, prepared for launch, tasked with a relatively straightforward mapping mission to a previously unexplored area of space known simply as 'The Expanse'. 48 hours later, after a cryptic message to Starfleet Command, the Mariner vanished without a trace. She was never heard from again.

...until now.

In 2384, the USS Tethys came across a unique type of singularity with very unusual readings. When they attempted to probe the anomaly with an experimental type of quantum hadrion field, it disrupted the fabric of the singularity, releasing a secret that it had held for over a century... The USS Mariner.

The Mariner's crew had been held in a seemingly endless moment, much like suspended animation, for 112 years. Realizing that a centuries-old mystery has been solved, Captain Iluvar ordered the vessel taken in tow while his medical and counseling teams went aboard to help ease the shock of her 're-emergence'.

Two years later, with the help of now Rear Admiral Iluvar, Commander Matthew Drake has convinced Starfleet to refit the Mariner for active duty, if for no other reason than for the psychological benefit of her crew. Now a new chapter begins for all of them as they attempt to fit in to this new time.

So you're probably asking: What is Star Trek: Mariner? Technically, Mariner is a Play by Forum Role-Playing Simulation and part of Horizon Fleet's Task Force 22. That's the boring answer. The more interesting one is this:

The Ethiopians believe that God created man because he loved to hear stories. Since the dawn of time man has explored his world and his universe through the telling of stories. It is a wonderful way to see things from different perspectives, to explore places and times that would otherwise be impossible, and its just plain fun. Star Trek: Mariner is a place where people from all walks of life, armed with a basic knowledge of Star Trek and their imaginations, can explore their own 'strange new worlds'.

My goal with Mariner is to create a place where people can gather in a truly collaborative writing project, stretching their imaginations and making new aquaintances. I want to create a welcoming and fun environment to write the stories that reside in each of us.

Join us today! Where will your story take YOU?
